In the UK, mailing bags are usually sold in inches (for example 10 × 14″) while factories and specifications often use millimetres. Width always comes first, then length, and the self-seal lip is normally extra, usually 30–50 mm.
Thickness is quoted in microns or gauge. One micron is a thousandth of a millimetre, and in the UK one micron equals four gauge, so a 60 micron bag is 240 gauge.
